Transformation Testimony – Scott Brown
During a recent digital keynote, I was deeply moved when Scott shared his life-changing story. After hearing me speak at an event back in 2023, Scott made a firm commitment to change. He has remained alcohol-free, off psychological medication for low mood, and now volunteers at local recovery groups, passing on lessons learned.

Valuable Lessons – Emotional Intelligence in Business:
This week presented several challenges that underscored the importance of emotional intelligence in entrepreneurship and in life. As Viktor Frankl once said,
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.”
That antiquated wisdom that remains true to this very day has guided me through technological setbacks, shifting project timelines, and the constant evolution of Beyond Baseline and BetterMan.
Emotional intelligence has 4 main quadrants:
Recognising emotions in others
Identifying emotions in yourself
Governing and moderating those emotions
Using these emotions successfully in daily life
To break old conditioning, we must consciously craft a new version of ourselves instead of letting past habits dictate our reality. Every challenge offers an opportunity to pause, gather ourselves, and choose a new response.
As Epictetus taught,
“Make proper use of what happens.”
The true test is in our response.

The Hidden Danger of Losing Just One Hour of Sleep
This week, our clocks moved forward and we collectively lost an hour of sleep. While it might seem trivial, the science tells a more concerning story.
For the past 15 years, I’ve studied sleep psychology and sleep science, and here’s what I’ve learned: when your sleep duration drops below the minimum threshold of 7 hours, negative effects kick in - psychologically, physiologically, cellularly, and immunologically.
The average UK adult now gets about 6.2 hours of sleep - roughly an hour less than what’s needed for optimal health. This provides insight into why we're seeing a global 24% increase in heart attacks during the spring transition. That missing hour can be the tipping point.
When we become sleep-compromised:
C-reactive protein (CRP), a key inflammatory biomarker, increases
Blood pressure by 5 to as much as 30 points (depending on how sleep-compromised we are)
Mother Nature designed us to spend a third of our lives on a mattress for good reason. Sleep isn’t a luxury—it’s a biological necessity. Compounded over time, if we've been sleeping poorly, not taking care of ourselves, coupled with potentially genetic vulnerabilities, that could be the very thing that causes a cardiac malfunction.
If you’re looking to make one simple change that could significantly boost your performance, prioritise that extra hour of sleep.
Sleep Tip: Try winding down 30 minutes earlier tonight by avoiding screens and embracing a calming routine.
